BACK up.

"The Untitled Trilogy" - 2009 - 2010 from David F. M. Hanes on Vimeo.

"The Untitled Trilogy" is a series of performance works that took place on three different occasions between the years of 2009 and 2010. The Trilogy attempts to personalize the life of a scattered alter-ego that is represented through story, junked-gesture, spoken word, viewer intrusion, and object use. Characters in the story address issues of identity assertion, spacial limitation, infinite convergence, and trembling edges of finitude. This video is a document of the final time I performed the Trilogy during an event with Baltimore artist DJ DOGDICK at the Whitehouse in Toronto Canada.

Using a method of non-linear content abstraction, I created a one-of-a-kind booklet that is made up of images and texts. I would use the booklet as a reference to help dictate the situations, actions and narrative of the performance. I would present the booklet as a "Hyper-Linking Non-Linear (HLNL) Booklet" that I see as a form of post-performance sculpture.

The performances are at times confused, immediate, absurd, and hostile... fast hybrid thinking is at work.

"we're intuitive and very very sensitive."

"i feel like.... I've always read into body language and patterns, and symbolic gesture and social context... and that lets me read into scenarios too far to the point that I see things that might not exist to other people. I think recently, I see that they do exist but aren't important. And that's my struggle. Trying to reconcile my perception with... what I need to care about."

This took a while to do. Seriously.

This piece is part of the "Cursed Works" reference series I have been dabbling in over the past few weeks (look here). Although it may be pretty hard to see, this is in fact a massed assemblage of coding that, if formatted correctly, would display an image of Rachel Whiteread's "Ghost", 1990. Before I massed all this code together, this text took up approximately 340 pages of digital document. I also had alot of difficulty printing a hardcopy of this text because the coding would force the printer to reboot itself over-and-over-and-over...

the text is at a 3pt size ratio.

creepy.

This is a truly amazing and exciting event that should not be missed. There are only 7 shows on this tour and Toronto is one of the seven. This means that this is a rare and special occurrence that should be respected and witnessed. Toronto has been given a gift we need to receive this with open arms and an open mind.

BOTH LIGHTNING BOLT and DAN DEACON are notorious for their live shows-----with that in mind, this is not an I will just check out their record type of situation. GO TO THE SHOW!!!!

INFO:

LIGHTNING BOLT

Lightning Bolt emerged from Providence, RI, in 1995 as a three-piece art school project. Initially there was Brian Chippendale's explosive, nonstop drumming, Brian Gibson's Contortions-like basslines, and Hisham Baroocha's vocals propelling them in a fury of volatile noise and orgiastic tribalism. The group helped found Fort Thunder, a music and art collective, and recorded a self-titled album that was issued through Load in 1999. By 2001's Ride the Skies, Baroocha had departed (he eventually formed Black Dice). This left the vocal duties to Chippendale, who jammed the microphone into his mouth as he drummed. Lightning Bolt did a series of tours with bands like the Locust, Arab on Radar, Orchid, and Melt Banana before returning in 2003 with the studio album Wonderful Rainbow. The album did very well in underground music circles, and set up the release of 2005's Hypermagic Mountain. (cited from ALLMUSICGUIDE)

DAN DEACON

Equally influenced by diverse artists like Devo, Talking Heads, Scratch Orchestra, Raymond Scott, and Conlon Nancarrow, electronic music composer Dan Deacon studied electro-acoustic and computer music composition at Purchase College in New York. While he was a student, he issued his first recordings in small runs on CD-R, including Green Cobra Is Awesome vs. the Sun, Silly Hat vs. Egale Hat (yes, "Egale"), and Meetle Mice, all released in 2003. He later moved to Baltimore, MD, and became an instant figurehead of the city's fledgling electronic music community, joining the Wham City collective and evangelizing his and his fellow whimsical peers' "future shock" output. Linking up with the Carpark label, he released Spiderman of the Rings (2007) and Bromst (2009), two albums filled with hyperactive and often challenging electronic detritus.

this is what I want right now...

it's hard to describe but I feel like someone out there, that maybe comes across this blog of mine, will understand this desire. it is deep and true. the feeling is potent... creeping towards me thick as bog. This feeling is keeping me from seeing past a a vile mist, thankfully my solo-strength grows with every passing day. This gives me hope and faith in a knowledge that soon the mist will pass with a North-Western the wind. Not an ounce of fog shall lift.

DAMN THOSE PRESSURE PUSHING BASTARDS. BEGONE WITH YOU.

Soon I will be all-alone on an island that is very dear to my youth-filled heart. Soon I will be too distant to know. Soon people will never know I existed. warmth shall be vanquished and I will find my other beyond the mirrored gates. beyond the 2-headed stone. Deep and under the mountain of frost and rock and shrub and streams that are streaming with the freshest of crystal clear waters.

please encompass my whole self. I get you too.
