Life Idol

now that the moon is close and spirits are high...

....i want to make a call to all those living in the toronto area to make the trip to the toronto island for tonights winter solstice festivities. we will be having a sweatlodge and a potluck that will be followed by a number of performances by resident artists, including myself. my piece will be of a tender nature, as i am taking my mood from my spirit partner who is forever a distant soul to mine. sadness and hope... the star and the 5 of cups. putting aside darkness while still embracing it.

my album for the day...

Juiceboxxx (Viscious Pop/Milwaukee)

It's difficult to place Juiceboxxx, so I'm not gonna try to say things that will weaken the experience. What I will say is this---a rapper out of Milwaukee, he creates one of the most intense live show experiences I have ever seen. He is deeply sincere, ruthlessly hardworking, and religiously committed to rocking a party. Juice explains that his goal is “to synthesize 30 years of rap and dance music into one quintessentially American sound.”

He is at his strongest, after wrapping up an Asian tour as well as touring as the opening act for Public Enemy. The videos and links below will help describe the Juiceboxxx experience but trust me when I say that if you haven't seen Juiceboxxx live, you haven't lived.

GRAVEBANGERS (Baltimore)
Baltimore legendary act and strongest, nastiest American export, Gravebangers are the dark, raw, pure and beautifully dangerous elements of night life culture. They are the fall of Rome, the end of a subculture, the face of romance become fascism (they are the black paint on the red door). Rapping, dancing, humping crucifixs’, spitting milk, biting, loving life and death. I stand by this band like Tina stands by Ike—even when you know it’s dangerous, you can’t keep your hands off. If raw, pure fun is not your thing, stay home, listen to Wilco.

had a conversation about this film after watching it and was talking about my feelings of thought paralysis caused by too much information. I think that maybe I'm getting over that shit. Fuck it. There are so many issues worth caring about! CARE MORE! I feel it and the feeling says make something happen. I will react and I will make. CARE MORE!!

CALL TO ARMS!

ISLAND

Right now I am getting ready to move again but this time to somewhere pretty special. Only been living in this current place for the past month but I feel like I'm prepared to go somewhere new. What better place than a little metro-escape that filled up such a nice chunk of my youth... and current life. This is going to be a time of growth for me. Time for me to begin a new journey that will continue on into 2012... a first big step in a series of steps to come.

LET THE CARDS BE DRAWN JUSTLY. I LOOK TOWARDS AN OPEN ROAD. THIS IS EXCITING.

+ICY ISLE+

you'll have to picture this with alot of winter elements.

dazed light saving...

this weekend was about dancing... all in all, not bad times. good people and not too much over-driving. I did not mind it at all but i will admit to one thing that keeps me so interested in night-life. I think that it's always a bit odd to meet (or just see) people who really don't roll in your circles. They are so different in many of the little ways they express themselves or even just interact with others. I mean, I am not against anyones particuar ways... unless of course they are ruining someone elses time... i'm just saying that social methods and the varied tendencies we all have towards them are boundlessly absurd and fascinating. I just think people are weird and funny and can cause large smiles on my face. its a good thing, all-in-all.

oh! i need to post this link because this is very good information... and an incitful resource on daily/healthy living. Check her out (Millie Lytle ND)

and a little bit of comedy from an old friend....

EYE STUDY

is it just me or has this week been a damned struggle??

LETS PICK IT UP PEOPLE!

I saw a video of myself from Saturday night... damn was I scary! haha... hologram glasses and grim-tattoos... 9" dagger??? I wonder if I said funny things to people, I suppose it doesn't matter too much. I expect that everyone else was as launched as I was.

I gotta mention that my brother had the most legit Larry David costume ever... he spray-painted his head to get it perfect. We also spent 2hrs looking for the perfect glasses. Very funny... who would even question.

Life crisis = scattered mentality.

BACK up.

"The Untitled Trilogy" - 2009 - 2010 from David F. M. Hanes on Vimeo.

"The Untitled Trilogy" is a series of performance works that took place on three different occasions between the years of 2009 and 2010. The Trilogy attempts to personalize the life of a scattered alter-ego that is represented through story, junked-gesture, spoken word, viewer intrusion, and object use. Characters in the story address issues of identity assertion, spacial limitation, infinite convergence, and trembling edges of finitude. This video is a document of the final time I performed the Trilogy during an event with Baltimore artist DJ DOGDICK at the Whitehouse in Toronto Canada.

Using a method of non-linear content abstraction, I created a one-of-a-kind booklet that is made up of images and texts. I would use the booklet as a reference to help dictate the situations, actions and narrative of the performance. I would present the booklet as a "Hyper-Linking Non-Linear (HLNL) Booklet" that I see as a form of post-performance sculpture.

The performances are at times confused, immediate, absurd, and hostile... fast hybrid thinking is at work.

"we're intuitive and very very sensitive."

"i feel like.... I've always read into body language and patterns, and symbolic gesture and social context... and that lets me read into scenarios too far to the point that I see things that might not exist to other people. I think recently, I see that they do exist but aren't important. And that's my struggle. Trying to reconcile my perception with... what I need to care about."

This took a while to do. Seriously.

This piece is part of the "Cursed Works" reference series I have been dabbling in over the past few weeks (look here). Although it may be pretty hard to see, this is in fact a massed assemblage of coding that, if formatted correctly, would display an image of Rachel Whiteread's "Ghost", 1990. Before I massed all this code together, this text took up approximately 340 pages of digital document. I also had alot of difficulty printing a hardcopy of this text because the coding would force the printer to reboot itself over-and-over-and-over...

the text is at a 3pt size ratio.

creepy.
